I have been so excited to see this movie ever since I heard they were making it, and after seeing it, I have one thing to say: it was the best book-to-movie adaptation I’ve ever seen.

They made sure everything was there… the perfect cast, the significance in every character, the symbolism (oh my god, the symbolism!), the imagery, and how important the contrast between old money, and new money truly was for the storyline. Not to mention, I loved how they incorporated every single significant quote into the movie script without altering a word… from Daisy’s daughter quote, to the beginning of the novel, to the ending of the novel, to others in between… they were all there - word for word. It was perfect.

Usually after studying a book in an English lecture/seminar I begin to hate it. With The Great Gatsby, though, it was different. I went into the seminar with the so much dread knowing we were going to read it. But after about a month and a half of endless analyzing, and a 6 and a half page essay, I love this book almost as much as I love To Kill A Mockingbird. (That’s a lot, if you didn’t know).

I didn’t think I could understand the story of Gatsby anymore than I already did after this past semester. But the movie was just so well done. I understand the characters more, the imagery and symbolism… I even appreciated the ending more. It was just an overall amazing movie.

And my god, Leonardo DiCaprio could not have been a more perfect Gatsby… amazing performance.

Overall, I am quite satisfied.
